Index reported that from now on, sticking to rules the government announced will be more important than ever. The main question is: what is allowed to do and what is not? It is important to emphasise that the order does not mean that no one is allowed to walk on the streets.

From tomorrow on, maintaining 1.5 metres of distance from other people on the streets and public transportation will be the most important rule of the order. Entering bars, clubs, and restaurants is strictly forbidden, except for workers and those who arrived for takeaway food.

Most importantly: leave your home only if it is necessary. Otherwise, stay at home and stay safe. Even if the flat or house is not officially yours because you are only renting it, stay where you are. What is necessary? You can go out to buy some groceries, to go to work, visit the hairdresser, pharmacy, buy pet food, etc. You are allowed to visit any kind of doctor if you have problems with your health and to take your pet out for a walk in the park. You can go to church, go for a run with family members only, and keep the distance from unknown people on the street. You can maintain your parenting responsibilities and visit your children, help the elderly and sick patients. You can go to the post office and to the bank if online administration does not work. Attend weddings and funerals only with your family members.

Hungarian citizens under 65 are not allowed to enter grocery shops between 9 am and 12 noon every day. Those who do not obey the order will be fined and have to pay 5,000 HUF (13 EUR) or even 500,000 HUF (1,370 EUR).

The curfew will be controlled by the police, but help from the Hungarian military is also expected. The last day of the curfew is April 11.

  1. Hungarian culture considers a trip to the hairdresser necessary. All salons in the US are closed.
The churches are closed in the US, and many services are online, but not always. The churches in Hungary remain open. Gatherings in churches are one of the main ways person-to-person transmission can occur.
Weddings are being postponed in the US; in Hungary, how are you going to stop transmission at a large gathering such as a wedding. AT a funeral, people should not sit next to each other in church pews. At an outdoor burial, of course distancing can be maintained.
Regarding shopping, the virus can live on cardboard and paper for 24 hours, plastic for 3 days, so leave your shopping bags and packaging on your doorstep, if possible, and bring in items as needed.
I am confused about the hours for shopping in your article. From 9 a.m. to 12 a.m., (which is midnight), those under the age of 65 are not allowed in the stores. This must be a misprint.

  2. 1.5 m away from everybody except in hairdressers (and manicurists so I an told). That is just madness.
